“I want people to wear pieces that translate through different spaces, time zones and regions and yet still fit in” – Vathiswabykeji
Over the years, fashion and style have evolved, shunning the barriers affecting creative exploration in design that the Nigerian fashion industry has been plagued with before now. These days, what you get are young, fearless designers creating outfits that make bold statements.
This trend has resulted in the #MadeInNigeria revolution, aimed to position Nigeria as an important fashion voice that the Nigerian fashion market is presently experiencing. One of such daring designers is Vathiswabykeji.
Vathiswabykeji is one out of the many #MadeInNigeria brands taking the lead in fashion. Known as “Theclothedtribe”, the brand makes impressive, chic statement pieces that scream fashion at its finest. The brand kicked off purely because of a desire to see people dressed in a certain way; in a stylish and effortlessly resplendent manner; where you’re not necessarily wearing the most expensive garment, yet look decent, stunning, and even timeless.
From the choice of colors to the designs and the detailing, all elements that are visible in any of their pieces surely has my attention.
Vathiswabykeji…
For the #MadeInNigeria campaign that I’m currently running, I was sent this gorgeous metallic dress, paired with the organza blouse.
Well, before you go huh, metallic and organza? I think it is important to think fashion-forward. The blend of the two fabric textures created a beautifully edgy piece of clothing. Simple yet complex in its forceful beauty.
The detailing on the neck and sleeves of the organza blouse give off ‘Victorian vibes’. This goes so well with my red curly hair, don’t you think? Kind of reminds me of ‘Victoria’ in twilight hehehe.
To be honest, I waited to install my red braids before shooting this look ‘cos in my head it’s all part of the ‘fit.
I paired this outfit with strappy heels and no jewelry as the detailing on the blouse makes up for the absence of pieces of jewelry.
A clutch bag would be ideal for this look. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the one I own that would have created a perfect fit. How sad!
So guys, if you need to shop for clean, elegant easy to wear timeless pieces, Vatiswa is the plug.
You can view and purchase more of their pieces on instagram.
