Did you know that the original name for Calabar was Akwa Akpa, from the Efik language…
Well now you do and you are welcome for the little history lesson there lol. I traveled to Calabar (I hate travelling by the way), two weeks ago for my granny’s burial. The town is pretty much the same (I would know, I lived there for a few years).
It’s still a very clean and quite town and time just seems to go by very slowly there. My opinion! Anyway, after the burial, a very good friend of mine Josh, suggested that we attend the fair holding at the marina resort.
Brilliant idea! Marina resort is a very nice tourist spot. It’s like a mini theme park (with just one ride though lol). It also houses the museum where you can see and learn about the slave trade.
There’s a film house as well and an area where you can sit and chill with friends. I must say its a beautiful place. Its got quite a large body of water too around it so yup, you can jet ski. Cool right?
The fair was themed ”Taste of Calabar” . I kind of compared it to Mente De Moda here in lagos. People had their wares and stuff on display.
There was food, good music, clothes, drinks and lots of people. I bumped into a few old friends and I must say I had such a good time. Thank you Josh for dragging me out.
I took quite a number of pictures but I don’t want to go overboard so ill post just a few. Enjoy.
Calabar…
I kept stalking Mr spidey hoping he would show me a trick or two. Bleh! No such luck. I had the angry watermelon cocktail (last picture) and it tasted so good.
Have you been to the marina resort? Kindly share your experience & thoughts in the comment section.
Kisses loves!!!
Beautiful post Grace, you sure had lots of fun.
Lol… Angry watermelon cocktail… Now that’s a first.

I would never go jet skiing. I’m too scared to try. Yup the angry watermelon was yum!
I have not been der.
I’m eyeing the ski though.
That Spider Man though ?. All my trips to calabar I never visited this resort. ???????????
Oohoh but you should have. Anyway, I had fun for the two of us. Mwah!!
“Time just seems to go by very slowly here” I totally agree with you!!!! The fair was actually fun, made me feel a bit relaxed coming back to calabar. Looking forward to more activities like that here. It was also lovely meeting you in person ??.

Time truly goes by so slowly there. Yes it was very good to meet you in person too. Mwah!
But Gracey I can’t seem to find my pic ?? and I’m sure it’s really pretty ?Cos I can see a lil bit of it but not the full pic.
Calabar is such a beautiful city. It is green and clean. I love their native food too. The ekpan kukwo and vegetable soup are my favorites. I’ve not been to the marina resort yet, but I enjoyed this post and it sure gave me an insight.
Do you really need a plan B? Take the test:

Hi Jessica,
I concur! Their ekpang is delicious. You should visit the resort though.
So I missed taste of Calabar and a chance to meet Grace of epiphany29

The Marina resort is a chilled place and great for hanging out with your crew.
Good work with the pics
Haha, please leave Mr spidey alone. I had fun stalking him
Interesting post. I had nostalgia reading this. I visited Calabar last year and I recall my visit to Marina Resort and Tinapa Water Parks. It was fun though the delicacy wasn’t all that, but I had a pretty good time with my friends there. The place that stood out for me was the slave trade museum. Learnt a lot and I understood Nigeria’s history better. Thanks for sharing this post. BTW what camera did you use? It’s very sharp.
Hello Ella,
Thanks for reading. The Marina resort is a very beautiful, serene place. I used my canon 60D.
I totally agree that time passes really slowly and the place is hella neat. I have only been to Calabar one time for the carnival and I was in awe the entire time. I didn’t want to leave and I hope I get to go back someday soon.
Your photos are always so nice Grace and no, I didn’t know the original name Calabar was Akwa Akpa. Thank you for sharing…xxx

It’s funny how I schooled there but stayed around for the carnival just once. I really love how clean the place is though.
Thanks so much for stopping by. ❤?❤
Thanks for coming! Glad you had fun ?
Thanks for having me.
