Hey loves!!!

I’m super excited about todays post because I’m finally posting one of my DIYs (not lke I’ve done that many) but yay still!

After contemplating on what to do with one of my shirts, I decided on turning it into a DIY Choker Shirt. For this project you wil need…

  • A shirt. Preferably one you don’t mind doing away with just incase you make a mistake while cutting.
  • A ruler
  • A pencil or a chalk
  • A measuring tape.

Let’s get into it then.

DIY Choker Shirt.

First step is to wear your shirt and assess the depth of cut you are comfortable with, then lay your shirt down on a flat surface and mark. I went with 5 Inches.

Note: All markings should start immediately beneath the collar.

Mark out 1inch on each side of the collar and connect it to the 5inches.

You should get a depth(length) of about 3 1/2 inches. Connect all lines together. You can go ahead and cut these lines carefully (just the top layer of the shirt).

This gives you a cut out neck line which is fine, but I went ahead and cut out the shoulders as you will see below.

On both sides of the collar, I measured 1inch outwards.  Marked it downwards to reach the 3 1/2 inches, then upwards to the top where the arm hole starts.

Make sure your shirt is laid out flat and it’s smooth. Carefully cut the lines (back & front of the shirt) avoid cutting through the arm hole seam.

If you have a sewing machine (that’s what I used), hem the edges to stop the shirt from fraying, or use a needle and thread if you dont, although a weaving machine would be the best.

To get the choker effect, cut of the top layer of the collar and ta – da DIY choker shirt!

I went ahead and reduced the sleeve lengths too as well as the length of the shirt. But this is optional.

I have more shirts so expect more DIYs Yaay.  I hope you guys understand it all. Explaning is way harder than I thought lol.

My next post will be on how I styled this shirt so please keep an eye out for it.
